Luther Palace
The Luther Palace was designed by Valér Mende, the same architect who also created the nearby Kecskemét Reformed New College. The two buildings, standing opposite each other on today's Szabadság Square, were constructed almost simultaneously, which explains their strikingly similar architectural style and design philosophy.
Like the New College, the Luther Palace reflects Mende's interest in Transylvanian vernacular architecture, incorporating motifs inspired by the traditional buildings of the Székely region. These folk influences are combined with the clean lines and modern spirit of early 20th-century Hungarian architecture, creating a distinctive example of the country's National Romantic and Art Nouveau heritage.

On the site of the nearby Lutheran Church once stood the school where Sándor Petőfi, Hungary's national poet, began his formal education between 1828 and 1831. A commemorative plaque on the wall of the Luther Palace marks this important chapter in his life.
According to local tradition, the house of Petőfi's uncle, Mihály Hrúz, with whom the young poet lived during this period, stood on the opposite side of the boulevard, on the site now occupied by the OTP Bank building.
